The Joy of Paying Attention.

Attention is the rarest and the purest form of generosity.

-Simone Weil

The air seemed a strange kind of moist. And as far as my eyes went all I saw were tall green unknown woods. Time slowed down. And sounds magnified. There was no internet connection. I looked at my siblings. They were equally annoyed as me. We weren’t used to being stranded away without the internet-disconnected from the whole world.

The paths we were walking were lifeless trails, trodden between huge unfriendly trees; offering nothing worthwhile to see. For a while we took pictures. Pictures of the trees, the way, the plants, the river, the rocks but it quickly bored me.What was the point of taking pictures if we couldn’t share them immediately?

The whole ordeal exhausted me. I sat on a huge rock overlooking the dying river. Perhaps during the monsoons it flowed like a happy playful child but at the moment the river moved like a sick old woman. Things looked way better in the pictures on Instagram.

I was staring at the insignificant horizon. Birds were flying in the sky like faded old kites. And suddenly the air filled with a strange kind of music. The sky turned to the colour of ichor-the golden blood of Greek Gods. And my heart skipped a beat when I saw a bright reddish globe overflowing with orange burning lava into the molten golden sky.

My senses became enthralled. How have I never realized that an actual setting of the sun was so mesmerizing? No image on Pinterest came close to the real beauty of it. Oh why! Real sunsets are things of pure joy!

The walk from that point became a whole new adventure. Every rock seemed wonderful, mountains- majestic, and the river: she transformed into a serene mermaid half immersed in water. The trees seemed to smile knowingly in a way I thought only Dumbledore could.
Way back I forgot that I even owned a phone.

Having dinner that night was a whole different experience as well. Without a phone to distract me ( I often eat while scrolling the phone checking one app or the other) I felt the texture of the food & noticed the different flavours melting in my mouth. Food has never tasted so good before. I may be wrong but I think actually paying attention(mind & soul) to the act of eating does some magic to it. This uneventful trip brought a new insight for me.

Isn’t life filled with so many wonderful things which we don’t enjoy simply because we aren’t paying attention?

Doesn’t it happen with people in our lives too?
That we forget how wonderful they are because we cease to notice them?

For instance, I live beside a lake. But I rarely notice it. Only when I actually noticed it…I realized how lovely it looks in the early morning. And I have lived with my father for practically whole my life. But only now that I see him occasionally, I realized he has one of the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen!

These were just some random musings. Is there any insignificant everyday thing in your life which seem more wonderful when you actually pay attention?
Or some feature or quality of a person which you only became aware of when you took time to ponder and look? Do let me know about them in the comments. I am sure it will bring me delight!

It doesn’t necessarily have to be anything big or fancy. Just the usual random everyday things and every day people.

There then! Adios till another insistent thought strikes! Happy reading!

Enjoy the little things in life because one day you will look back and realize they were the big things.

This one was completely legit. When i was going through it,one thing i realised that,I too had been there in such situation which made me more to relate with it.
Recently,i started preparing for GOV. Exams which contains History (i never liked this subject and never felt to even touch it😂),but now i have to read it or else i cant clear my exam,so other alternatives avail for me.
I started reading History and as i thought it was really so boring ,so i always had my insta or whatsapp open whenever i sat to study History.

One day,my data pack got over and i had zero balance in paytm to so i have to wait till morning, and i cant skip this History.Somehow i made my mind and started reading ,gradually i found its not that boring and i felt (not very much) good studying History(knowing about our own ancestors, cultural and all).
If i talk about now,i really love reading History, that one single day without insta😂..made my interest to rise in subject. And thats really so good for me.
Thats it,not so fancy but really paying attention to our studies, can make it more beautiful and interesting whatever the subject may be(depends on your like elsewise).

Di,you really write such that it always relate to some of my incidents .I am happy to share this one with you.
And I dint got away from internet, but utilised it on YouTube lectures for history(😂😂) instead of spending all of it on whatsapp and insta/Fb
